Last night while channel-surfing, I came across a broadcast of a seminar on weight loss being presented in a huge auditorium. There were probably 1,000 people in the audience.

The presenter was giving very helpful information on the proper nutrition, diet and mindset needed to lose weight. It was very motivating, uplifting and moving. But…

I thought to myself, I bet only 20 people in that audience are going to make meaningful changes that will move them towards their desired weight loss goals once they leave the seminar.

Knowledge without action is worthless.

Don’t just read a book or an article, listen to an mp3 or watch a video about taking your marketing or sales to the next level. Make a plan on how you will put that info into ACTION today to grow your business.

Here are several quick and easy tips you can use to get into action – one for each day – to grow your business. If you have taken action on one of the Small Business Tips of the Day, then go ahead and “Like” our Fan Page, and post your success to the Wall!

http://facebook.com/GrowYourBiz

By posting your own successes, you can help many others with their action as well as have a place to introduce yourself to hundreds of other small business owners at the same time.

It’s a win-win!

Now… What action are you taking today to increase your clients, serve more people and explode your income?
(Hint: click here -> http://facebook.com/GrowYourBiz)

Ok… they’re actually still called “Fan Pages.”

But many people have been commenting on the fact that Facebook has switched from the “Become a Fan” button to a “Like” button.

The thinking is that people will be more likely to “Like” a page rather than “Become a Fan” of the page. I assume this is sort of like the difference between telling someone you have a crush on them and actually asking them out.

Although I don’t remember specifically getting up a lot of courage to just tell a girl that I “Liked” her and not follow up with a date offer. But maybe that was just me. Maybe I really wanted to “Become a Fan” so bad that it all was really same.

I wonder if in the end, Facebook will realize that this, too, is really all just the same.

Anyway, enjoy the new Facebook “Like” look. And please post your thoughts below on the subject!

To me, that’s the same thing as going to a networking event, handing your card over to a stranger, and walking away. Except that the card has a little more info on it. So maybe that’s even better than “anonymous friending.”

This question was posted on LinkedIn. Below is my answer. Please add your views and experience in the comments:

Definitely both.

It’s great to meet new people and expend my network. I really enjoy connecting with and getting to know quality professionals so I have a large group to draw from in order to help other people, and to help each other.

I also know that networking is not a fast process and takes time and effort. The easiest way to get to know someone and for them to get to know you, is to see and interact with them over time. The more interaction and in different settings and scenarios, the better the relationship foundation.

“Proximity breeds familiarity.”

This is something I learned in a social psychology class in college (many, many years ago :) ), and I believe it to have great insight into relationship building and by extension networking, marketing and sales, both online and offline.

All the best,

Hello Facebook Enthusiasts!

I thought I would alert you to a fact that may have been easily overlooked.

In the past couple weeks, Facebook has made a few changes that may have altered your Privacy settings.

I recommend you take the following steps to update your profile and account privacy to the level that you want:

1.) Please your mouse cursor over “Settings” in the upper left-hand corner of your screen, near the Search box.

2.) Click on “Privacy Settings” from the drop-down menu.

3.) Click on “Profile Information” and set each item listed to your preferred privacy level.

For those using Facebook for networking and marketing, and not overly concerned with unknown people seeing your info, I recommend a lesser level. Most of my items are set to “Everyone” so that people will be able to read my profile info, status updates, etc and then can decide if they want to add me as a friend. Having the level of “Everyone” also helps search engines to index that particular piece of information on your profile.

4.) Click “Back to Privacy” above the list of items.

5.) Click on “Contact Information” and repeat choosing your level of privacy for all the items listed, as you see fit.

6.) Click “Back to Privacy” above the list of items. And now Click on “Search” to edit who can search you, as well as if you want your profile at all to be indexed by search engines.

I hope this helps to provide you with a better and when appropriate, more secure, networking experience on Facebook!

All the best,

Are you one of the thousands or perhaps millions of people confused by the new Facebook “Live Feed”?

When I switched to the new feature a few days ago, I only saw updates from some people and sometimes those were many hours old. I figured FB was on the blink again.

So eventually, I posted something to that effect on my own status and a friend sent me a set of instructions on how to fix that problem. But, the flaw there was that it called for me to click on an “Edit Options” link that I could not find. I spent quite a long time looking for this devious little link but still could not find it.

And many other people are still looking for the infamous “Edit Options” button – So many that someone created a group on Facebook just to explain it!

This worked for me, though I had to go back and switch to News Feed and back to Live Feed a few times before I saw the correct settings box to show up.

So, from that group, here is the answer to make that link appear and edit your Live Feed settings so you won’t miss any of your friends’ posts, links or updates. Whew! :-)

IF YOU DONT HAVE “EDIT OPTIONS” BUTTON DO THIS -

1. Make sure you select ‘Live Feed’ at the top – should say ‘Live Feed’ followed by View News Feed.

2. Scroll all the way to the bottom. If the ‘Edit Options’ link does not show in the right side of the ‘Older Posts’ blue box at the bottom, hover over anyone’s post above, and a ‘Hide’ dropdown appears in… Read More… Read more… Read more the right corner of their post. Click on ‘Hide’ and it should drop a box that says ‘Hide (persons name)’. Select that person to hide them. You should now see the ‘Edit Options’ in the bottom blue box to the right of ‘Older Posts’.

3. Click on ‘Edit Options’. If it does not bring up a box that has ‘Number of Friends’ in the bottom left, then cancel and go back to the top of your page. Select News Feed. Then re-select Live Feed…. Read more

4. Click on the ‘Edit Options’ link again. You should now see the ‘Number of Friends’ in the bottom left. I read somewhere the 5000 is the maximum number of friends a person can have, so to see everyone’s posts, change that number to 5000

Taken from the group “For all those without an EDIT/OPTIONS button” at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=194994353708
